Amidst shifting global economic growth and landscape time to time whilst cost of living is rising the Mantra for the 21st century is to do more with less, and many building pioneers are exploring how to re-purpose material to construct homes for the upcoming future generations. Very soon a new example can be seen at Sri Lanka’s Bolgoda Lake – a home to many luxury holiday homes and sites owned by the richest and emerging middle class in island nation. Sri Lanka’s pioneer in Hybrid construction technology Hybrid Homes that have been innovating affordable housing solutions to the nation recently launched Hybrid Homes House Boat constructed from shipping containers and other recyclable materials. This Hybrid House Boat made from a 1x20’ feet Container shall consist of a bedroom and bathroom and installed on a barge constructed from fibre. The house boat would consist of 40 Hp Outboard Engine which would help the owner to cruise the house boat to the location of their choice. This will be a unique opportunity to hotel industry to offer novel sport and recreational activities to its clients. “But if you go down to the Bolgoda Lake for a look, don’t expect to see a floating big steel box welded together. Hybrid House boat has an unusual design when compared to other architecture in Sri Lanka,” Hybrid Homes Managing Director Dharshana Fernando pointed out. He said the new Hybrid House Boat will also be welcoming, with a warm brown mixed exterior paint and spacious windows. “We could make tailor made Hybrid house boats for anyone and it is much more a home than a boat,” Fernando added. According to Fernando shipping containers offer a number of advantages, aside from being considered a ‘Green’ use of material, they are relatively affordable. And once loaded off the crane, it doesn’t take much to make them minimally livable. They also are incredibly durable, and are designed to last in marine environments. “You could have them right on the ground for over 20 years and they really wouldn’t rust,” Fernando said adding that working with the containers however posed some unique building challenges for Hybrid Homes, and the Hybrid builders learned a lot with the project. “Weight was a big issue, and the float design had to have enough support to remain buoyant. The thick joint steel hulls presented another challenge,” he added. Hybrid House boats are an amazing innovation, floating homes away from home in which people can relax in more free and open spaces than virtually anywhere on land. The best Hybrid House Boat designs combine privacy and mobility, livability and functionality. From all-out portable yachts to mostly-immobile these boat-based houses may just make you green. Hybrid House Boat has a strong Twin Hull Platform with Timber Railing and could have your own ‘Choice of Steering Systems’ and the Wheelhouse or the Control Station can be placed inside or outside of the main housing container unit. Hybrid Homes is already transforming the lives of Sri Lankans who seek their own home at an affordable price with a long spanning lifetime for what they put in to as investments to build their own home. Hybrid Homes are the pioneers of Hybrid Construction Technology (HCT) that converts used shipping containers to super luxury, eco-friendly houses which uses shipping containers and other recyclable materials for construction. The construction arm of Hybrid Homes, Hybrid Construction Solutions provides an array of advantages against the conventional construction. These modular Hybrid Buildings are easy to build and costs lower than conventional buildings. Use of recycling shipping containers as the core material makes the hybrid construction technology, green and eco friendly. According to ISO shipping standards a Hybrid Homes have a life span of more than four decades in a better environment. More information about Hybrid Homes are available on www.hybridhomes.lk.
