On Saturday, 28 March at 8:30 p.m. local time, The Kingsbury proudly supported Earth Hour by switching off all non-essential lighting and other energy consuming equipment for one hour throughout the property.
Founded by the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour is the single largest, symbolic mass-participation event in the world, inspiring a global community of millions of people across 162 countries and territories to switch off lights. As an annual event, Earth Hour brings attention to sustainability issues on our planet and how each of us, whether as individuals or organisations, can make an impact.
Guests and staff of The Kingsbury came together at the entrance of the hotel to light a lamp in support of their understanding and commitment on the need towards building an ecologic environment to promote sustainable living and protect the earth’s environment against global warming.
The Kingsbury staff also committed to go beyond the hour by incorporating energy saving practices in their offices and lifestyles – such as switching off computers as well as monitors, lights, air conditioners, printers and other energy consuming equipment when leaving their workplace, printing on both sides of the paper – in order to continue our duty towards protecting our planet for the wellbeing of our children and communities.
Further, examples were used to demonstrate the savings employees can benefit from by incorporating such practices, to which the staff showed their fullest support, understanding and commitment.
