The Sandun Arana National Programme

The Sandun Arana National Programme was recently launched in the Badulla District under the guidance of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources in collaboration with Touchwood PLC.

Steps have been taken under this programme to plant sandalwood in religious places, government institutions and forest reservations etc. in order to protect this valuable plant which is under threat of extinction.

Nearly 300, 000 plants have been planted under 625 projects all over the country.  A large number of plants have been planted in the Muthiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya, the official residence of the Bishop of Badulla and various other places in the Badulla District under the Badulla District Programme.  Here, the Bishop of Badulla Rev. Dr.Winston Fernando takes part in planting Sandalwood plants in his official residence.  Anusha Perera, Public Relations Manager and Himosha Nissanka of Touchwood PLC are also present
