TMC Kalutara conducts seminar on ‘Breakthrough Strategies’

The Management Club – Kalutara conducted a very successful interactive seminar on ‘Breakthrough Strategies to Improve Productivity and Achieve Corporate Goals’ on Wednesday, 23 October at the Galadari Hotel in Colombo. This seminar was organised jointly with The Lions Club of Panadura and in collaboration with the Industrial Safety Division of the Department of Labour. A unique feature of this seminar was the highly interactive session by Bob Feldman (an internationally renowned Corporate Trainer, Executive Coach and Management Consultant for communication and presentation skills) from Chicago. The Chief Guest on this occasion was the Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekara, Deputy Minister of Labour and Labour Relations and the Guest of Honour was the District Governor, Lions Clubs International – District 306 A 1 – Sriyantha Rajakaruna who is also an Executive Committee Member of TMC – Kalutara. The occasion was also graced by the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations Herath Yapa and the Commissioner of Labour – Industrial Safety and Occupational Hygiene W.L.S. Wijesundara. Project Chairperson Errol Smith who is also the Secretary of TMC – Kalutara conducting the proceedings, welcomed all present and invited the Co-Chairperson, Dr. Sarath Samarage, President of the Lions Club of Panadura and TMC – Kalutara member, to give an overview of the seminar. In his brief address, Dr. Samarage highlighted the importance of this seminar and gave an overview of the topics that would be discussed. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sarath Weerasinghe highlighted the importance of Breakthrough Strategies involving the health and safety of workers and staff in the working environment and the importance of planning, management and positive communication. He also shared his experiences having served for 35 years in the Navy, which were highly appreciative. He further thanked the Management Club – Kalutara and the Lions Club of Panadura for the initiative taken in organising this very important and informative seminar in collaboration with the Industrial Safety Division of the Department of Labour. The pre-lunch session of the seminar was conducted by A.W. Alahakoon – District Factory Inspecting Engineer and D.L. Asoka Peiris – Specialist Factory Inspecting Engineer, both of the Industrial Safety Division of the Department of Labour and their presentations were on ‘Breakthrough perceptions of health hazards in the working environment in order to control conditions that could hamper productivity’ and ‘Breakthrough strategies for the identification and prevention of industrial/occupational accidents and its impact on productivity which would help in achieving corporate goals,’ respectively. The post-lunch session was highly interactive and conducted by Bob Feldman, the internationally-renowned corporate trainer from Chicago, presently domiciled in Singapore and who has also made Sri Lanka his second home for the past nine years. His presentations were on: ‘Breakthrough strategies to increase awareness and change behavior which hamper productivity and move in the direction towards achieving corporate goals’ and ‘Breakthrough connections for positive communication and building trust/confidence’. The seminar was well attended by those in management and leadership positions from the banking, finance, construction, manufacturing and corporate sector. It was a tremendous success being highly commended by one and all.
