Biodiversity Sri Lanka (BSL), in partnership with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Access Engineering PLC is organising a networking and learning event for the construction sector on 29 March from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Liberty Ballroom, Ramada Colombo, titled ‘Mainstreaming Biodiversity in the Construction Sector’.
One key element of this learning event would be to discuss practical experiences in integrating biodiversity into the construction sector by highlighting case studies from the field. A panel discussion, in which participants will have the opportunity to learn from State officials and practitioners, will follow.
Sessions will include an overview of the unique biodiversity that is inherent to Sri Lanka, presented by Prof. Sarath Kotagama of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, as well as a segment on the impact of the construction sector on Sri Lanka’s biodiversity presented by Prof. Devaka Weerakoon of IUCN, Sri Lanka. A look into the environmental laws and regulations with relevance to the construction sector will be presented by Anandalal Nanayakkara, Attorney-at-law, while a brief of the environmental safeguards and its applications in the construction sector will be presented by a Consultant Safeguard Specialist to Asian Development Bank in Sri Lanka, Saranga Gajasinghe.
Principles on mainstreaming biodiversity in design and construction will be elaborated through presentations and practical examples by Hasantha Lokugamage of Jetwing Kaduruketha and Murad Ismail of MICD Associates.
