Introducing cutting-edge technology at its best, Toshiba Singapore, through its Toshiba Mobile Computing Partner in Sri Lanka John Keells Office Automation, launched its range of new high-performance Tecra R840 business notebooks last week.

The Tecra R840 redefines mobility for business professionals, offering full performance and amazing connectivity, all within a thin, light and durable chassis.

The unique feature of the R840 compared with any other laptop is the visual experience it offers with 1GB of dedicated graphics which is powerful enough to let the user display up to four screens at once. The Tecra range consists of the R840 i3, i5 and i7 priced at Rs. 89,000, 159,000 and 195,000 respectively and come with a three year warranty.

Along with the launch of the Tecra, Toshiba also unveiled two more notebooks, also boasting their own unique features – the all new Toshiba Qosmio F750 3D, the world’s first, glasses-free, 3D notebook PC which is able to display 3D and 2D content at the same time on one screen and 13” inch Toshiba Portégé R830, a 1.4kg light notebook with features such as an inbuilt robust magnesium alloy casing along with an optimised heat removal technology.

“We focused on delivering what our customers asked for by reducing weight, improving connectivity and increasing battery life without sacrificing performance,” explained Toshiba Singapore Manager of Product Marketing Manager Siow E. Hunt.

“Toshiba has always been very much ahead when it comes to innovation and although it is hard to tell the difference from the outside, there is a great difference between the quality of Toshiba notebooks and many of the other brands in the market.”

Almost 25 per cent thinner and 20 per cent lighter than its predecessor, the Tecra R840 comes with high stiffness resin, reinforced casing, together with chassis pillars embedded into the laptop’s interior, making the system highly robust. A test conducted by the independent German test institute TÜV Rheinland, confirms that it can withstand a drop from a height of 76cm, and resistant against spills up to a volume of 30ml on the keyboard without impact on the data stored on the device.

“We are proud to launch the Tecra R840 Notebook which takes mobile computing to a next level with high performance graphics, increased battery life and many features packed in a slim and light device. JKOA is dedicated in introducing the newest technology at the most affordable prices,” said  JKOA CEO Janoda Thoradeniya.

The Japanese brand is currently ranked at number three in Asia, despite the fact that Toshiba customers generally pay a premium for the products, with prices nearly 20 to 30 per cent higher than its competitors.

“This shows that our customers recognise the quality and cutting-edge features that come with Toshiba products,” stated Hunt.

“We strongly feel that Sri Lanka is now an epicentre where renowned brands are now available and we have experienced tremendous growth here and we are very confident that by next year, we will be one of the top three brands in the country.”

Currently coming in at number four in Sri Lanka, it is hoped that the new range of laptops introduced which cater to customers in different segments and other models such as the Satellite C300 introduced a couple of months back as a lower budget option and has proved to be very popular, will give Toshiba the necessary boost to surpass its competitors within the country.  Hunt added that the adaptations and expectations of customers are growing rapidly in Sri Lanka and feels that there is a lot of room for growth in the South Asian region as a whole. Toshiba plans on launching their much-hyped range of new tablet PCs by the end of this year.
