Provides equipment to optimise productivity UTE recently contributed to the efforts of Sunpower Constructions Ltd, in their quest to supply piped water to over 500,000 people living in the Ampara district of Sri Lanka by March 2016.
UTE supplied a large fleet of Cat machines to the main contractor of this project, Sunpower Constructions. The Ampara Distribution Network Water Supply Project spanning 15 months, has been undertaken by the Sri Lankan Government in selected areas in the Ampara district.
Sunpower Constructions is the C1 Contractor who has undertaken design and construction of this turnkey contract, mainly with the view to address the urgent need to harness and sustain water reservoirs and provide the people of the Ampara District with access to tap line water.
UTE provided more than 20 machines, comprising of Cat 428F Backhoe Loaders, M315D2 Wheel Excavators, 312D2 Excavators and 907H2 Compact Wheel Loaders to support this endeavour.
The Cat Wheel Excavators, which were introduced newly to the local market, was mainly chosen by the contactor due to the versatility of the product. The Cat 315D2 Wheel Excavator is easily adaptable to the type of complicated work involved in a water project; where construction machines have to operate within confine spaces in highly residential areas. The safety features of the machine – enhanced by the new colour monitor, the rear mounted camera, and the greater mobility of the machine will no doubt improve the efficiency and productivity of the project.
Cat Backhoe Loader is fast becoming the industry standard for Backhoe Loaders since the introduction of the 428F variant back in 2013. The fuel efficient engine is ideal for local conditions and has made the machine more versatile for multiple tasks in the construction sector.
Staying true their tag line ‘The Journey Continues… Long After the Sale’, UTE has already stationed a team of technicians at the water supply project site to provide timely after sales services and ensure that downtime is minimised throughout the execution of the project.
To add more value by reducing spare parts delivery time, UTE expects to establish an on-site parts bank thereby improving machinery efficiency and availability.
In addition, with the fitting of remote monitoring equipment branded Product Link, fleet management effectiveness is redefined helping the contractor to improve productivity, boost efficiencies and enable timely decision making based on all the relevant up-to-the-minute information that is available all in one place.
“UTE is proud to contribute in this integrated water supply project as the provider of solutions in engineering products and services to a wide array of clients in the industrial sector in Sri Lanka, not merely because of the business opportunity but also because provision of water to people facing acute water shortages is indeed a worthy cause which can contribute to the wellbeing of the country as a whole,” said UTE General Manager Sales and Rental Janak Edirisinghe.
