Thirty years since the first diagnosis of AIDS, an estimated 34 million people spread throughout the world are living with HIV, while doctors around the globe diagnose on average 7,500 infections per day.

Statistics from UNAIDS shows that in 2007 there were an estimated 2.7 million becoming newly-infected with HIV, while 1.8 million people died from AIDS. The body also reported that the epidemic has slowed down, with a 21% reduction in the annual number of new cases since 1997.
