World Environment Day 2014 celebrations at Taj Samudra

The UN General Assembly declared 2014 as the International Year of Small Island Developing States (SIDS). World Environment Day on 5 June 2014 was celebrated under the theme of SIDS, with the goal of raising awareness of their unique development challenges and successes regarding a range of environmental problems, including climate change, waste management, unsustainable consumption, degradation of natural resources, and extreme natural disasters.
Taj Samudra, Colombo has always been a supporter of green economy and environmental sustainability. Preserving nature and preventing pollution is a mandatory topic in the hotel.
The Taj Samudra Team and hotel guests celebrated the World Environment day on 5 June by planting trees at the North Lawn and enjoyed a healthy meal of manioc and coconut sambol at the hotel. No plastic material was made use of for this occasion. The Taj team went the extra mile to create awareness of the importance of the World Environment day 2014.
Taj Samudra staff stood by the side of the main Galle Face Centre road and handed over plants to vehicle passing by and almost every vehicle picked up a plant. The gesture of gifting a plant was very much appreciated by the public at this event.
