Education is about people, about students and about institutions. The vision of Lyceum International School about education remains true today as it did so, twenty nine years ago. On 14th June 1993 Lyceum International School opened its doors to its first students, for their first day of school at Nugegoda. A few families embraced Lyceum's vision of providing a rich educational opportunity with an internationally based learning experience. Thus, with only a handful of qualified teachers, Lyceum's journey began.
Our student driven mission and motivation, then and now remains unchanged. Every year, the portals of Lyceum opened and welcomed students into an engaging and vigorous learning environment that builds their academic confidence. For the past twenty nine years, we have helped students harness their skills, motivation and desire to learn, by encouraging them to discover and build up on their diverse strengths and interests. The endearing dedication of our academic staff, enables them to thrive through multi sensory instruction that draws upon authentic learning experiences, whether as an individual or a group member. Our students are empowered to build their skills leading to academic perfection, and discover the passion of their lives.
Since its inception, Lyceum International School has continued to journey forward under the specialized guidance, commitment and dedication of the Founder, Dr. Mohan Lal Grero. Looking back at what the school has achieved during the past three decades of learning, Lyceum has much to be grateful to its Founder and Dr. Kumari Grero, the Coordinating Principal, for their unique contribution to the field of education in Sri Lanka.
Each year, the school has taken special steps in keeping with the mission to reach academic excellence in Sri Lanka's international education. Today, Lyceum proudly presents an academic structure which encompasses the international curricular and the National Ordinary level and Advanced Level curricular, taught exclusively in the English medium. The results of our students at these examinations and the numbers selected for higher education to the national universities and prestigious universities in the world proudly signify how the students have been successfully empowered to be the best they can be.
Throughout the years of primary and secondary education, whether it's the past, present or the future Lyceumer, we are engaged in the extension of the mission of teaching to “enhance the potential of every young soul that passes through our halls” of learning. The progress of Lyceum International School to what it is today, after nearly twenty nine years of dedication and motivation, has been hard, but the vision “to produce global citizens who will reshape the future of their motherland” has remained steady, unchanging and growing stronger.
A brief record of the progress of the school from its inception nearly three decades ago needs to be mentioned with absolute pride. The parent school which is at Nugegoda, has branches at Wattala, Panadura, Ratnapura, Gampaha, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala along with ten “Leaf Schools” established in many cities of our island. All branches and leaf schools today, accommodate a student body of nearly 22500. The student population from Pre Primary to Advanced Level complete their education in the English medium and in the upper school students have the choice of pursuing either the National or International curriculum. Students are trained and taught not only to reach academic achievements, but to face the challenges of the world with confidence and pride.
This year, in 2022, Lyceum International School has stepped out of the fields of Pre-Primary, Primary and Secondary learning and embarked on tertiary education. This has enabled the academic excellence to reach beyond the halls of the school. The Lyceum Campus opened up a new world, and a new experience of higher education not only for the Lyceumers, but also for students from National and other International schools.
One might think Lyceum has reached its final destination, but it is only the beginning. As Arthur Ashe once said, “success is a journey, not a destination”.
