Access Engineering PLC, one of the foremost engineering companies in Sri Lanka, was recognised with Excellence Awards for Construction Performance at the most coveted National Awards for Construction Excellence – 2018, held at BMICH on 20 December 2018.
National Awards for Construction Excellence, organised by the Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA) under the Ministry of Housing and Constructions accords recognition to construction projects that have demonstrated highest standard of construction excellence, construction management, higher degree of professionalism in technical expertise and quality, participation in the promotion and training of craftsmen/tradesmen and instruction of innovative technology.
Access Engineering won Construction Excellence awards for the design and construction of jetty at Kapparattota at Weligama, the rehabilitation works of Labugama Kalatuwawa Water Treatment Plants and the On-shore portion of the works of Ganemulla Flyover.
Kapparattota Jetty was initiated with the forward vision to revitalise the fishery based livelihood of the communities in and around Weligama. The scope of the project included the design and construction of 128m long jetty on a pile foundation which extends from the land into the sea, enabling the local fishermen to anchor their boats within the sea area avoiding the trouble of bringing the boats to the shore.
Access Engineering PLC together with Bentonutepito Zrt of Hungary was involved in the rehabilitation works of Labugama and Kalatuwawa water treatment plants which accounted for 15-18% of the water requirement in Colombo city and its suburbs. The design and the construction of all the non-process components of the project and civil work of process based components were handled by Access Engineering PLC while the Bentonutepito Zrt proposed and designed the new water treatment process and supplied all mechanical and electrical materials.
Ganemulla flyover is a much-needed solution to the heavy traffic congestion at Ganemulla Railway Crossing. The project was spearheaded by the Road Development Authority under the funds of the Government of Spain. The design and the supply of the superstructure were entrusted to the main contractor – Centunion S. A of Spain and the design of the substructure, onsite fabrication, installation and erection were subcontracted to Access Engineering PLC, along with the construction of approach roads and drainage works.
