NCASL, Ceylon Institute of Builders to hold Construction Leadership Forum

In order to update the knowledge of local construction companies and professionals in relation to the new technologies and methodologies that are revolutionising the construction industry worldwide, National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL) and Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) are organising a seminar on 22 March from 5 p.m. onwards. 

During this seminar, experts from Trimble solutions will share their perspectives on topics such as construction challenges and business environment, constructability (constructible BIM), steel and concrete construction – concept to fabrication and international case studies or successful projects.

It is sponsored by Trimble Solutions India, a fully-owned subsidiary of Trimble Solutions Corporation, Finland. 

The organisers said worldwide, construction companies are moving from traditional practices to adopting modern technologies to redefine the construction process in different areas such as project delivery, lifecycle performance, affordability and disaster resilience. 

Technology fusion is an emerging methodology to integrate potential technologies among different disciplines, and it is also viewed as an effective approach to assisting construction firms respond to the changing environment in which they are operating currently. These are mainly brought by comprehensive applications of IT systems. 

Major IT systems introduced to construction projects are well depend on 3D-CAD systems and networked communication systems, which is effectively applied to product design, production planning, real-time monitoring of construction process, control of transportation equipment in execution stage, and management of procurement and executions. With BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology, one or more accurate virtual models of a building are constructed digitally. They support design through its phases, allowing better analysis and control than manual processes. When completed, these computer-generated models contain precise geometry and data needed to support the construction, fabrication, and procurement activities through which the building is realised. By utilising these IT systems, a remarkable progress is being made in the field of integrated management of process, organisation and product of the project. 

Positioning-centric information with the aid of GPS, laser, optical and wireless communications are changing the way people and businesses work throughout the world. These technologies are being implemented in machine control, paving control, site positioning, ready-mix and bulk building material logistics. These solutions help contractors take control of the jobsite, perform tasks more productively, meet tighter specifications, and avoid rework. Using them, contractors can share information, track results instantly, make smarter decisions, and easily manage multiple jobsites.
