Keys to recipients of Oval View Residencies condominium at Borella were handed over last week in a simple ceremony.
Oval View Residencies condominium scheme at Palangasthuduwa in Borella was initiated in 2014 by the then Secretary Defence and Urban Development and current President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The project should have been completed three years ago but was delayed due to the inefficiency of the previous regime.
Built at a cost of Rs. 5.5 billion the 25-storey complex comprises of 304 units of three bedrooms with 880 square feet and 304 units of two-room 680 square feet apartments. It also has a children’s playground, two gymnasiums, a swimming pool and shopping complex.
“It gives me great pleasure to complete a project initiated by our Government before 2014 to provide housing for public servants,” said State Minister Dr. Nalaka Godahewa.
“The importance and vital role played by Government servants is proven more than ever when dealing with a crisis of this magnitude. We have a dream to provide housing solutions to public servants who are doing such a distinguished service. We will continue to work despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in order to realise our dreams as we have very limited time left,” Minister Godahewa added.
Godahewa intervened in order to hand over house keys to the recipient public servants by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. However Dr. Godahewa did token handovers on 14 October to selected house recipients due the ongoing uncertainty that has emerged due to the new coronavirus threat. Urban Development and Housing Ministry Secretary Sirinimal Perera, UDA Chairman Harshan De Silva, Director General Prasad Ranaweera were also present.
