Tokyo Cement Group is actively involved in capacity development and skills building among masonry craftsmen in its efforts to uplift the construction industry. The company has been engaged in this industry empowerment program for over two decades to enhance the standards of workmanship, by working closely with masons from all parts of the country.

As part of these efforts, the company conducts capacity building seminars across the island to share best practices and provide professional guidance in the building construction discipline.

Most recently, the company concluded a series of seminars for masonry craftsmen in Mahiyangana, Batticaloa, Kalmunai, Embilipitiya, Polgahawela, Mullativu, Chilaw, Rikillagaskada and Welimada.

This far-reaching program is spearheaded by Eng. Mouly Gunarathna, Consultant Engineer of Tokyo Cement Group, who together with the Regional Sales Teams organised the seminars in each area.

The seminars encompass knowledge sharing and training in efficient construction practices, new methodologies in building construction and new product usage.  In addition to developing knowledge and skill level of masons, Tokyo Cement also conducts awareness programmes to engineers, technical officers of public and private sector and contractors to enhance their expertise in construction methodologies.

Further, these seminars were offered free of charge to help share best practices in the field of construction, enhancing knowledge of professionals on innovative methods in the usage of cement, concrete and cement-based value-added products.

Apart from conducting these island-wide skills building seminars, the company also operates A.Y.S. Gnanam Construction Training Academy in Dambulla, accredited by Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission, which conducts residential training programs to offer NVQ Certification for skilled and non-skilled masonry craftsmen, opening up career upliftment opportunities.

Tokyo Cement Group, as Sri Lanka’s No. 1 supplier of cement and concrete, has dedicated itself to uplift the overall professional standard of the local construction industry through well-trained, competent and qualified personnel in the civil engineering discipline.
