The book titled ‘Basic technology of wood working’ written and published by Channa Wijesekara provides desperately needed precision technical knowhow not only to the carpentry students but also to the experienced veterans in the industry. In addition, the contents of the publication provide useful and important information to everyone on wood and usage of wood which may be valuable in understanding practical application.
Channa Wijesekara is a Civil Engineering Diplomate of University of Moratuwa possessing fellowship of the Institute of Incorporated Engineers. He has been exposed to the wood industry for over 35 years and can be categorically named as one of the best ‘Wood Technologists’, if not the best, in Sri Lanka currently. He has obtained most of his technical knowledge initially through an educational stint in Germany and later in other countries as well. Channa Wijesekara’s experience and acquaintance to the wood sector as a student, trainee, trainer, educator, curriculum writer, administrator and finally a successful and decorated entrepreneur has made the contents of the book extremely effective and beneficial to the reader.
Channa Wijesekara, at present, holds two nationally important positions as the President of the Wood and Wood Based Industrialists Association and Chairman of the Advisory Council for Ministry of Commerce and Industries on Wood Based Industries. In addition, he is the founder Managing Director of Leema Creations Ltd., the reputed and respected entity in the furniture industry with repeated recognition by way of various national awards for excellence by many institutions.
In consistence with his vision of developing the industry through superior future knowledge, it is hoped that the wood fraternity will be fortunate to receive his guidance by way of more valuable books.
