Commercial Bank donates defibrillator to Marawila Base Hospital

The Wennappuwa Branch of the Commercial Bank recently donated a defibrillator to the Cardiology Unit of the Marawila Base Hospital with the assistance of the Bank’s CSR Trust.

A defibrillator is used to reactivate the heart by providing an electrical impulse for heart patients in a critical condition. It is therefore considered a life giving machine.

The Commercial Bank stepped in to help after being informed of the hospital’s need by Dr. Hemantha Fernando, the Medical Officer of the Blood Bank of the Hospital. Dr. Sudarshana Arambegedara, Medical Superintendent of the Marawila Base Hospital, coordinated the event.

“The Commercial Bank is always sensitive to the needs of local communities,” said Thilak Wijesuriya, Senior Manager of Wennappuwa Branch who co-ordinated this matter on behalf of the bank. “The Bank has consistently contributed to improve education and healthcare facilities in Sri Lanka and this contribution is in line with that policy.”

The Commercial Bank also donated a CTG machine to Kuliyapitiya Base Hospital recently. Past initiatives of the Commercial Bank’s CSR Trust include granting of scholarships to undergraduates, setting up IT Labs in schools, conducting programmes aimed at upgrading the standard of English Education, assisting Children’s Homes, donating equipment and essentials to the Colombo National Hospital and donating computers to the Vocational Training Centre at the Galle prison.
