DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, has strengthened its leading market position in the global cross-border express business by introducing three new air express routes between Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

The routes are being served by AeroLogic, the joint venture cargo airline of DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo.

Ken Allen, Chief Executive Officer of DHL Express, emphasises that the latest network enhancements significantly contribute to further building DHL’s leading position. “We are proud to spearhead developments that improve the connectivity of markets,” says Allen. “There is a continuously high demand for express transport of goods and documents between key markets in Europe, Asia Pacific and EEMEA, and our new routes will provide customers with more flexibility and add capacity where it is needed.”

Following the delivery of AeroLogic’s 7th Boeing 777F aircraft, DHL Express launched an earlybird connection from Hong Kong to Leipzig. The new addition enables the company to now offer westbound DHL Express Worldwide next-day delivery service from one of the most important markets in the world. The company also added the new Bangkok stop to its Leipzig-Singapore-New Delhi route to improve speed of delivery to the important Southeast Asian market.

The new Brussels to Bahrain route, which went live on 12 October, adds to the existing Leipzig to Bahrain connection and enhances DHL Express’ ability to serve a high-demand trade lane that connects European and American markets to the Middle East.

In line with DHL Express’ strategy to sharpen its focus on the international cross-border express business, the company’s recent investments have targeted network enhancement projects on key trade lanes. Trade data for the first half of 2010 confirms a high demand for fast-to-market international transport of goods on these lanes and not surprisingly, DHL Express’ international shipment volumes have continued to grow significantly in the first half of 2010 in a year-on-year comparison.
