Emergency passed for another month

Parliament yesterday extended the Emergency Regulations for another month with a majority of 111 votes.

The bill received 134 votes in favour of the motion while 23 votes were against it. Some members of the main opposition United National Party, the Tamil National Alliance and Democratic National Alliance voted against.

The Parliament was, thereafter adjourned until 1.00 p.m. on Thursday.
