Enjoining Order against CBEU dissolved

The Colombo District Court refused the extension of the enjoining order which restrained the Ceylon Bank Employees Union (CBEU) from conducting district committee elections for the Gampaha and Kegalle Districts or conducting any district committee elections without giving 14 days notice.

The matter came up before District Court Judge K.Wathupola. Plaintiffs A.K.Bandara (President), Ranjan Senanayaka (Secretary), Lionel Wickremasinghe Kushan Wijepala and M.R.Herath of People’s Bank Branch Union of the CBEU instituted litigation citing the CBEU, its President Amarapala Gamage, Vice President K.K.Vithana, General Secretary Ranjith Munasinghe, Senior Assistant Secretary and five others as defendants.

They stated the 1st defendant CBEU which is the parent Union of the Bank of Ceylon Branch Union and 17 other branch unions like HNB Branch Union, Commercial Bank Branch Union etc, is entitled to give 14 days’ notice of district committee elections under and in terms of  Section 23 of constitution of the 1st defendant CBEU.
