Unique NIC identification number for EPF members will be assigned to provide efficient service

THE Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) and the Department of Labour (LD) have launched a joint project to re-register all EPF members.

In re-registering, the members will be assigned their National Identity Card (NIC) number as the unique identification number in the EPF system.  With the implementation of the re-registration process, the member contributions and the interest earned and distributed among members from Fund’s investments would be recorded under the unique identification number throughout the employment life cycle.

The main objective of this project is to provide an efficient and cost effective service to its members by reducing the time taken to process their refund applications and requests for balance certificates, by improved processing efficiency and through a more systematically maintained data base.

It has been decided to structure the “Re-registration Programme” with new features. Under the new phase of the project, a new member registration form named “Form RR6” has been introduced to register all new recruits on real time basis with effect from 1 November 2010. All registered employers and all new employers who will commence business in future are required to furnish NIC details of new employees recruited after 1 November 2010 through “Form RR6” along with the “Form C/C3” when their first EPF contribution is sent to the EPF Department of the Central Bank, in addition to the “Forms A, B and H” which should be submitted to the labour office within 14 days of recruitment. Further, employers having employees who have not yet submitted their NIC details under Re-registration Project are also requested to submit their NIC information through “Form RR6”. Duly completed “Form RR6” should accompany a photo copy of the NIC of the employee, certified by the employer with his signature and the company stamp. All registered employers will receive a specimen format of the “Form RR6” introduced for collection of NIC details of new employees along with instruction guidelines in due course. All employers who will commence business in future may obtain “Form RR6” from the nearest labour office.
