Marketing has come of age. From production, product and selling orientations, we now have many organisations, adopting the concept of marketing. What lessons can we learn as we look back at the evolution of marketing as a philosophy and as a business function?

More importantly, what does the future hold for marketing in the region and in Sri Lanka, in particular? What are the likely changes in the theory and practice of marketing, and how will these vital changes affect your organisation?

Will the modes of marketing strategy, planning and implementation change fundamentally? Also, what are the mega-trends that are unfolding across the region and in Sri Lanka and how will they shape the way you know and do marketing?

The CIM Sri Lanka Region explores ‘The Evolution of Marketing – Past Century and Beyond,’ the first CIM Talking Point Programme for 2011, scheduled to be held on 23 February at Galadari Hotel Colombo. The programme aims to highlight how marketing has changed over the past decade, the number of challenges that we have faced and the need to be updated on emerging trends such as online channels, social media and mobile and digital technology.

The programme will be chaired by Professor Uditha Liyanage, Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Management of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura. Indrajit Wickramasinghe Chief Operating Officer, NDB Bank and Ramal Jasinghe Director/Chief Executive Officer, Asian Alliance Insurance PLC will serve as the panel. The Moderator will be Ravi Jayawardena, Chief Executive Officer Maliban Biscuit Manufacturers.

The programme is sponsored exclusively by HSBC and is organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Sri Lanka Region for nearly 100 marketing and finance professionals.
