All participants who visit Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre from Friday to Sunday for ‘Jewels Sri Lanka 2010’ will receive a gem each for participation, the Chairman of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority Anil Koswatte said.
The event, organised by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority in association with the Gemmologist Association of Sri Lanka hopes to attract trade visitors from leading business organisations in USA, Europe, Russia, Middle East, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Turkey to make it a truly international gem, mineral and jewellery trade show.
With a reputation of quality and excellence in the international market, the Sri Lankan gem and jewellery industry is now geared to establish a world class gem and jewellery hub practicing green and ethical production.
“The Government has identified the area as a thrust area for development. Accordingly, the Government has granted unprecedented incentives to the industry, which augurs well for sustainability of export growth,” Koswatte said.
In the attempt to reach the targets set by the Government, the event thus organised would become a prime catalyst, with the exhibitors being guaranteed a spot in the number of international gem and jewellery events that is set to be held next year.
Chairman of the National Gem and Jewellery Authority Anil Koswatta stated that the trade fair would open many doors for small and medium entrepreneurs as well as giants in the field as many important contacts could be made during the three days of exhibition.
A special pavilion sponsored by the authority would also provide an a valuable experience for ‘export ready’ SMEs to test their products in the market prior to the participation in ‘Sri Lanka Pavilions’ in international trade fairs and exhibitions.
Those who visit the fair will be able to purchase jewellery at low discounted prices and onsite gem and gold testing facilities will also be available for free. Exhibitors taking part in the event will be gem exporters, wholesale dealers and lapidaries, diamond manufacturers and wholesalers, jewellery manufacturers, exporters and retailers, machinery, equipment and tools manufacturers and importers, education and service providers, laboratory and certification services and export ready small and medium entrepreneurs.
The opening ceremony of ‘Jewels Sri Lanka 2010’ will be held on 10 December in the presence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Minister of Environment Anura Priyadharshana Yapa. Day two of the trade fair will see the presence of Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa and on the third day with Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.
