With prices food skyrocketing, the Government will commence a programme to sell commodities 30% cheaper on 8 February at the Colombo Agrarian Services Development Office in Colombo District.
Analysts said pressure to increase salaries and wages will rise as food prices have either doubled or tripled though people’s income levels have remained static.
The Government has decided to provide essential food items at concessionary prices through 100 Agrarian service centres located in urban areas, disclosed Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife S.M.Chandrasiri.
