HK approves 18% passenger fuel surcharge rise by Cathay, SIA, ANA

(Reuters) - Hong Kong has given approval for passenger fuel surcharges levied by from Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd and two other airlines to be increased by up to 18 percent to partially recover higher operating costs from fuel price fluctuations.

The approval, also given to Hong Kong’s dominant carrier Cathay, Singapore Airlines Ltd and Japan’s All Nippon Airways Co Ltd , would be effective from April 1 to 30, the Civil Aviation Department (CVD) said in a statement on Friday.

The new maximum fuel surcharge levels would be HK$194 ($24.88) for short-haul flights and HK$884 for long-haul flights, it said. Passenger fuel surcharges are reviewed regularly by CAD. The last review was carried out at the end of February, when the maximum surcharges approved by CAD were HK$165 for short-haul flights and HK$747 for long-haul flights. ($1 = HK$7.799)
