HNB sponsors The National Trust as ‘Principal Patron’

Hatton National Bank PLC through its HNB Sustainability Foundation entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with The National Trust for Cultural and Natural Heritage commonly referred to as ‘The National Trust – Sri Lanka’ to sponsor the administration work of the National Trust for a period of three years and act as its ‘Principal Patron’ during this period.

The National Trust – Sri Lanka was founded in May 2005, to operate as a national body for protecting and safe guarding the tangible and intangible heritage of Sri Lanka. This includes sites, monuments, sculptures, paintings, artifacts, music, dance, the fauna and flora which are not protected or safeguarded by any institution of the Government of Sri Lanka. The National Trust – Sri Lanka is modeled on ‘The National Trust (UK)’.

The objectives of the National Trust – Sri Lanka and the services rendered by the organisation are focused towards protecting and preserving the cultural heritage of the country.

Currently the work of the National Trust – Sri Lanka includes the following:

=Publication of books and DVDs

=Conservation of the Fort at Malwana

=Monthly lectures on culture and related topics in Colombo

=Organising tours to heritage sites on a quarterly basis

Its next projects would include key initiatives such as restoration of the Dutch Canals and the Jaffna Fort.

Hatton National Bank PLC has always taken a keen interest in sponsoring sustainable projects and assisting in development activities – libraries and computer centres in rural schools, water projects in under privileged communities, supporting the counseling centre at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital, to name a few.

By sponsoring the activities of the National Trust – Sri Lanka the HNB Sustainability Foundation has extended its investment in projects that are focused on preserving the national heritage of the country.
