Judge Weeramantry former Vice-President of the International Court of Justice will address the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission this afternoon (29 November) at the Kadirgamar Institute of Foreign Relations and Strategic Studies, Horton Place,Colombo.
Judge Weeramantry through his judgements and writings has advanced concepts of Cross-Cultural Understanding and Peace Education globally. He has won numerous international awards for his work in this area including the UNESCO Peace Prize. He was also a former Professor attached to the Monash University in Australia.
On the same afternoon, H.L.D. Mahindapla a renowned journalist and a former Editor of the Observer and the Sunday Observer, and a Secretary General of South Asia Media Association., will give evidence before the Commission representing the World Alliance for Peace in Sri Lanka.
The former Government Agent of Jaffna and a retired senior officer of the Sri Lankan Administrative Service K. Ganesh will also give evidence before the Commission in the same afternoon. Prior to serving in Jaffna, Gansesh worked as the G.A. of Mannar and Vauniya.
The Commission headed by C.R. de Silva, PC and a former Attorney General will hold sessions from 2-5 pm today.
