Kenya wants redemption against Pakistan

Kenya will be aiming to overturn a 5-0 head to head record against Pakistan when the two teams face off in a group A cricket World cup encounter today at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium.

The two teams will be meeting for the first time at the World cup; with the 2003 semi finalists Kenya targeting a win to redeem themselves after a humiliating defeat by New Zealand in the opening match.

Kenya’s highest score against Pakistan in the five innings is 179, and the last time they met, the national team was shot out for a paltry 94.

However, given the history between Pakistan and Kenya, the team which will win the toss may elect to field and try to expose the batting problems of the other side.

In another group A encounter favourites Australia began their World Cup campaign on a winning note, wrapping up an easy 91-run win over Zimbabwe.

The African outfit had no answer to the pace of Brett Lee, Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson, who finished as the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 19.

Zimbabwe had put in a spirited display in the field to keep Australia to 262 for 6 on a good batting wicket, but they never looked like chasing the runs down once a positive opening stand between Charles Coventry and Brendan Taylor had been broken.  (www.kbc.co.ke)
