LAHES launches leadership development program for plantation sector

LAHES – The Corporate Campus, the education arm of the diversified business conglomerate LAUGFS Holdings, will be launching a unique program addressing the development needs in the plantations sector.
LAHES has a reputation of introducing programs that are a first of its kind, in the country. This novel program is titled ‘LAHES Executive Diploma for Leadership in Agri Business’. The plantation sector; comprising of tea, rubber, coconut, is a major force steering the national economy as a significant contributor to the GDP. The plantation industry which was the highest foreign exchange earner and the main employment generator of the country until the mid-eighties, has faced many challenges during the past years.
In order to transform the sector and bring it to the glorious state that it once was, the planters, who are the driving force of the sector, have to be equipped with the knowledge to run the plantation as a modern-day business
LAHES Director/Chief Executive Officer Vindhya Weeratunga said: “At LAHES – The Corporate Campus, we continuously look at ways in which we can add, as well as create value to our country. The objective of this program is to transform the planter from being a manager to a leader in agri-business, duly sensing the kinds and trends in the socioeconomic and political environment. In doing so, key areas of development will be focussed on. The modern day planter needs to act as a change agent and integrate with internal and external environments. In designing the program, we obtained input from different stakeholders of the plantation sector.”
The diploma is six weeks in duration and classes are held on Saturdays, full day, at LAHES. The faculty consists of reputed lecturers with academic plus professional qualifications and experience. Classes will commence in August.
