Seshika Fernando, a Chevening scholar from Sri Lanka, currently studying at the London School of Economics (LSE), was recently invited to a round table discussion with Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.

The discussion was attended by about 20 Chevening scholars from LSE and a “very different experience,” as Seshika puts it.

She added: “LSE is a very busy and interesting place. We have so many events featuring finance professionals and talks by the industry which is great to build a solid network of leading finance professionals. LSE also attracts some really famous people like prime ministers, policy makers and researchers of different countries, to deliver talks on economy, foreign policy, environmental issues etc., on nearly a daily basis, and I try to religiously attend these whenever time permits.”

Chevening is the UK Government’s scholarship programme for overseas students. The British government covers the costs of study in the UK of post-graduate students with the potential to become future leaders in their home countries. Currently, there are two Sri Lankans Chevening scholars studying in the UK.
