Survey reveals that over 500,000 children are engaged in economic activities in SL

More than half a million children of Sri Lanka are engaged in various economic activities, a recent survey reveals.

According to a survey on activities of children in 2008 and 2009 conducted by the Census and Statistics Department, 557,600 children were engaged in economic activities island wide.

These children belong to the age category of 15 to 17 years. The total number of children in this age category is 4,338,709.

The survey was conducted with the assistance of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). It was conducted island wide sans several areas in the Northern Province, a spokesman of the Department said. (www.colombopage.com)
