More money for Colombo makeover

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa participated in the Colombo District Coordination Committee meeting held on Saturday, which discussed in detail matters related to the Divi Naguma National programme, Provincial Road Development Project, Gama Naguma Project, Samurdhi Programme, decentralised budget and many other matters related to the Colombo District.



Furthermore, progresses of development projects launched in the Colombo District were also evaluated.

A sum of more than Rs. 46,200 lakhs was allocated for the immediate development activities in Colombo District this year. These funds were allocated for Provincial Road Develop project, Divi Neguma project, Samurdhi programme and Gama Neguma project in Colombo District in 2011.

Addressing the Coordinating Committee meeting, Minister Basil Rajapaksa said that each Divisional Secretariat in Colombo District would be provided funds for the development of the Colombo District by the Ministry of Economic Development. The money will be spent to develop the lack of facilities in the district.

The Government has decided to allocate more money for the development of the district since it is the commercial hub of the country. Minister said.

Minister of Petroleum Resources and Development Susil Premjayanth, Minister of Water Supply and Drainage Dinesh Gunawardene, Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardene, Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka, Governor of the Western Province Alavi Mowlana, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Geethanjana Gunawardena, Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala, Parliamentarian Duminda Silva and Provincial Council Minister Upali Kodikara and Hector Bethmage also took part in this discussion.
