The World’s greatest spin bowler and world record wicket-taker, Muttiah Muralithiran (Murali), arrived with full of smiles after the aircraft landed at around 4.40pm at the Jackson’s airport yesterday afternoon.

“I am smiling because of the humidity here is almost like arriving back at Sri Lanka because the weather is similar to that back home but anywhere I am in Port Moresby and can’t wait to get started with the business end of it,” said Murali. “It’s great to be in the country and it would not be so, had Andy Bichel not invited me to come around and have some coaching session with the younger cricketers here”

PNG Barramundis coach, Andy Bichel said it was nice of Murali to honour the invitation because it will also be an opportunity for cricketers alike to come and have a training session with him.

Bichel also said that it is a privilege for many to face Murali because many of the elite players are currently under scholarship In Australia and will not be seeing him and therefore it is a chance of a life time for our emerging players to engage in the game with their cricket heroes and to get to know the great spinner. The Pacific MMI Insurance and MVIL sponsored challenge “The Don’t and Drive T/20 Cricket bash is set to attract a big crowd and attention when it kicks start at the weekend. Pacific MMI General Manager, Laurens Van Der Gaag Said, “We hope that all cricket supporters and the Port Moresby public will take, what could be once in life time opportunity to come out on the weekend and support the teams taking part in the Bash”.
