National Development Bank sprints off with 11 medals

NDB Bank sprinted off with 11 medals at the recently concluded 27th Mercantile Athletic Championship at the Sugathadasa Stadium recently.

The haul of medals included four golds, four silvers and three bronze.

Over 1,200 athletes from 40 companies participated in the two day meet and NDB Bank participated for the second consecutive year. They finished within the top 10 teams of the medals table and within the first 20 of the points tally.

Shamali Wickramasinghe was adjudged the best performer in the women’s novices category where she won gold in the 100 and 200 sprints, a silver in the 100x4 relay and qualified for the meet record of 13.70 seconds in the 100m sprint.

The other top performers were Hasitha de Silva winning two golds, and one bronze in the 110 hurdles, 400 hurdles and 100x4 relay and Gehan de Silva (the only medal winner in 2009 with two silvers) winning three medals in the over 40 veterans segment, two silvers in the 200 sprint, 110 hurdles and a bronze in the 100 sprint.
