The new Suzuki Celerio from AMW promises to provide one of the biggest shakeups in the Sri Lankan car industry for quite some time thanks to its revolutionary new EZ Drive transmission. For years now, automatic transmission cars have been priced out of the reach of most new car buyers looking for a low cost, frugal means of transportation. In addition to the high initial price automatic cars have been notoriously heavy on fuel whilst requiring frequent maintenance, and in some cases being susceptible to early failure. Breath of fresh air for buyers However, the new Celerio provides a breath of fresh air for buyers, with its new EZ drive transmission – an automatic with all the benefits of a manual! For the first time on an automatic car, fuel economy is equal to the manual offering, with an astounding fuel economy rating of 23.1 kmpl for both automatic and manual versions of the Celerio, verified by The Automotive Research Association of India. This is achieved by a new electronic control unit, which works in tandem with the precision hydraulic actuator to control the engagement of the clutch and shifting of gears. These technological advancements have translated into the creation of one of the easiest to drive small cars ever, with exceptional fuel economy – and at a price the competition could only dream of matching. It goes without saying that Suzuki’s reliability record is second to none, and the transmission in the Celerio has been designed to be as maintenance free as possible. Exciting new features The Celerio impresses in a multitude of other ways as well, with a new engine, unmatched space and comfort, and a raft of exciting new features. The K-Next engine features an optimised compression ratio, reduced frictional losses and re-designed valves and springs, all of which translate to class leading efficiency. The new Drive-by-Wire system is based on the same principles first introduced to jet powered aircraft, with instant throttle response providing a more spritely drive, and a flatter torque curve to boot. When coupled with the automatic’s ‘Triptonic’ manual mode, you’ll be rewarded with an exhilaratingly fun drive like no-other. The interior has been designed for space optimisation, with a total of 15 smart utility spaces to store knick-knacks, including map pockets, ticket holders and bottle holders for both front and rear passengers. The airy interior is one of the roomiest in its class, with ample headroom, legroom and shoulder-room, and is further enhanced by the luxurious dual tone dashboard, moulded in an attractive wave design. For a small car the new Celerio has a capacious boot too, with ample space to swallow the weekly shopping or even your luggage for a weekend getaway. Fashion conscious For the fashion conscious, you get a choice of seven exciting colours, all of which complement the CICO (curve in curve out) design language that has been applied across the car. The dynamic front profile is both modern and striking, whilst the bumper incorporates a large air dam flanked by two fog lights – form and function epitomised in the Celerio’s elegant design. The chiselled profile spreads to the rest of the car, with a broad and muscular stance being incorporated into the side profile, and a high and purposeful waistline being complimented by mirror-integrated signal lights, and sporty alloy wheels. The Celerio is a car you’d want to be seen in, which is something you’ll have to get used to with its head-turning design aesthetic. Safety is paramount Safety is also paramount in the new Celerio, with ABS ensuring you stay in control, no matter what the situation. But in the unfortunate event of being involved in a collision, the Celerio has you covered, with airbags for both driver and passenger. The new Celerio will prove to be a boon for shoppers in the new car sector, as it combines the ease of an automatic with the fuel economy of a manual, not to mention the space of a much bigger car, and the looks of a European offering – and all this whilst being offered at a low price that won’t break the bank.
