One killed in robbery attempt

Police fatally shot a robber during a shootout yesterday in Maharagama.

The incident has occurred when a three-member gang has attempted to rob a jewellery pawn shop.

The police have received a tip off on the robbery attempt and have taken measures to nab the gang.

The police had opened fire when a member of the gang had tried to kill the owner of the pawn shop.

One of the suspects had escaped while another was arrested by the police, police spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody had told Daily Mirror online. The Police have also recovered some weapons.

The Maharagama police are conducting further investigations.
