People’s Bank joins the nation to celebrate Avurudu in true Sri Lankan style

All branches kept open for customary Avurudu Ganu-Denu on 15 April
People’s Bank, the bank that introduced the concept of Avurudu Ganu-Denu to the Sri Lankan banking and financial services sector as far back as 1973 will celebrate its 41st year of Avurudu Ganu Denu this year amidst the participation of its valued customers and business partners at branches and service centres located island wide.
As this year’s Avurudu dawns on a Poya holiday, the bank has made arrangements to hold this important national custom on the day following Avurudu, on 15 April from 9 a.m. onwards.
The special Avurudu Ganu Denu program will enable all Sri Lankans as well as the bank’s valued customers to be part of this important Sri Lankan tradition where they have the opportunity of taking part in the customary New Year ‘financial transaction’ with a reliable financial partner – an age old custom practiced by most Sri Lankans.
Accordingly, the bank has made arrangements to offer an array of banking services to its customers on this day including opening of new accounts and making deposits into existing accounts whilst affording them the opportunity to receive a special ‘Avurudu Ganudenu Savings Certificate’ which entitles them to attractive gifts in keeping with the value of their deposit. Customers who save Rs. 50,000 will be thus entitled to receive a handy pressure cooker at the maturity of their deposit in one year; while those saving Rs. 25,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 will be entitled to receive an electric iron, a flask and a wall clock respectively thus making this Avurudu, a true celebration.
In addition, all customers will be received at the bank by presenting them a ten rupee coin placed on a beetle leaf and treated with traditional Avurudu sweetmeats in keeping with the spirit of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year.
People’s Bank extends a warm invitation to all Sri Lankans to be part of this special moment by joining hands with the Avurudu Ganu-Denu program on 15 April scheduled to be held at its branches and service centres island-wide.
