President calls on scouts to act with commitment

The centenary of the Sri Lanka’s Scouts Movement will be held in 2012.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing the eighth National Scouts Jamboree emphasised the need to create a disciplined and skilled younger generation for a prosperous future.

Speaking further at this function, which was held in Angunukolapelessa in Hambantota, the President said that the Scout movement rendered an invaluable service to the society and the younger generation should be trained to commit themselves from childhood for the betterment of the nation.

He expressed confidence that the scouts would act with commitment and dedication to render an honest service to the nation. Speaking at the occasion, Commissioner of Scouts Sri Batuwandala said an International Scouts Jamboree would be held in Sri Lanka in 2012 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Scout Movement of the country. Around 15,000 scouts representing all provinces are participating in the Angunukolapelessa Jamboree, which will be held until 30 December.
