Auction offerings last week totalled approximately 6.5 m kgs. Ex estate totalling 0.8 m kgs a quantity which is similar to last week’s offerings, met with lesser demand in comparison to last week’s auction. BOPS which gained substantially in the previous week lost momentum closing Rs.10 – 20 per kg all round lower when compared to last.
Western BOPS shed Rs.10 – 20 per kg all round. Nuwara Eliyas was of no exception losing Rs.10 – 20 per kg. Brighter Uva/Udapussellawas sold Rs.5 - 10 per kg dearer. BOPFS followed a similar trend in comparison to the corresponding BOPS losing Rs.10 – 20 per kg on average. Western BOPFS along with Nuwara Eliyas declined by Rs.10 -30 per kg. Uva/Udapussellawas lost Rs.10 – 15 per kg on average.
In the CTC category High, Mid & Low grown BP1S sold Rs. 5 – 10 per kg dearer. The High grown PF1S along with the Mediums were dearer Rs.10 – 20 per kg whilst the Low Grown select best PF1S sold irregularly firm however other CTC’s in the Low grown category which declined sharply in the past few week’s gained marginally by Rs.5 – 10 per kg.
In the High & Medium leafy category cleaner PEK/PEK1S gained Rs.5 – 10 per kg whereas FBOP/FBOPF1S along with OPAS sold irregularly lower.
Low Growns comprising approximately 3.3 m kgs in the Leafy & Tippy catalogues met with good demand all round. Select best BOP1S/OP1S sold irregularly dearer, other below best sorts gained Rs.10 – 15 per kg on average. Select best OP/OPAS were firm to marginally easier however, below best were fully firm to irregularly dearer. Select best PEK/PEK1S sold firm other high priced PEK1S declined Rs.5 – 10 per kg and more. In the below best category a fair selection of bold PEKs sold dearer to last.
In the small leaf Tippy catalogues select best FBOPS sold firm however best & below best moved up by Rs.5 – 10 per kg. Select best tippy teas sold firm. Cleaner secondaries appreciated by Rs.5 –10 per kg. Select best FF1S were firm. Below best and cleaner varieties sold dearer. Cleaner teas at the bottom too appreciated marginally.
