Tea exports soar in October

Tea exports for the month of October 2010 had totalled 29.4 m/kgs vis-a-vis 25.09 m/kgs of October 2009 showing a gain of 4.3 m/kgs. 

The total value realised amounted to Rs.14.5 b, here again, showing a growth of Rs.1.2 b as against Rs.13.3 b realised for the corresponding month of 2009.   Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said cumulative exports for January-October 2010 totalled 259.5 m/kgs showing a gain of 19.3 m/kgs vis-a-vis 240.2 m/kgs of 2009. 

Total exports value of Rs.127.6 b too show an increase of Rs.17.2 b when compared to Rs.110.4 b realised during the same period of 2009. 



Tea in bags have shown a significant gain in volume YoY whilst other main categories too i.e. tea in bulk and tea in packets combined too have shown a growth. 

CIS continues to retain its position as the No.1 importer followed by UAE with Iran taking up the 3rd position.  Syria, Turkey and Jordon are the other noteworthy importers of Sri Lankan tea for the period under review.
