The Association of Container Transporters (ACT) recently held its 37th Anniversary at Hotel Galadari, Colombo.
Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva was the Chief Guest. Merchant Shipping Director General P.R. Ajith Wijesinghe and other dignitaries from Sri Lanka Ports Authority, CICT and trade bodies representing the sector attended the event which was a grand success.
ACT was incorporated in 1985 as a trade Association with the intent of propagating and safeguarding the interests of 40 container transporters catering to import and export trade at Port of Colombo. ACT also works to improve industry standards and foster relationships with all stakeholders to ensure smooth operations by actively engaging with respective authorities, regulators and related industry bodies. By virtue of its activities, it serves as a vital link in the Supply Chain Process and contributes significantly to the national economy. Since inception, it has grown to be a significant player in the Maritime Eco System consisting of over 210 members whose total capacity exceeds 2500 Prime Movers. It had stood steadfast during times of adversity enabling uninterrupted flow of imports and exports which feeds the national economy. ACT played a pivotal role during COVID by extending its fullest support to Sri Lanka Ports Authority and other stakeholders in facilitating trade whilst adhering to strict COVID-19 guidelines.
