The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka conducted a special seminar titled ‘Hub Operations; future opportunities for investment in Sri Lanka’ on 12 October at the BOI Auditorium, 8th Floor, West Tower, World Trade Centre, Colombo.
The seminar was aimed at the export oriented enterprises that are serviced by the BOI Head Office. The purpose of this seminar was to brief all stakeholders and enhance their knowledge in an expanding economic sector which has considerable importance for an island nation such as Sri Lanka, strategically located at the crossroads of the Indian Ocean region.
The inauguration speech was made by BOI Director General Duminda Ariyainghe. Several presentations were made on the Importance of Commercial Hub in Sri Lanka by both BOI and representatives from the enterprises which are being engaged in hub operations. Sean Vandott, Director Logistics Global Shippers Forum, Mahinda Ramanayake, Executive Director, Investor Services, BOI, Amal Rodrigo, Director Hayleys Free Zone and Pandula De Silva, Senior Manager EDGC made the presentations.
This seminar reflects the growing importance of hub operations in Sri Lanka in particular, and in the Asian region as a whole. This expansion is fuelled by Sri Lanka’s importance as a centre for trade, tourism and investment in South Asia, with connections to East Asia, Australasia, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
A total number of 130 participants attended the seminar followed by a question and answer session.
