The Chairman and the Executive Committee of the Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA) met with the Director General Merchant Shipping, A.W. Seneviratne, to discuss the regulations and policy governing the maritime sector recently.
Amongst many other industry matters discussed, the representatives of CASA appreciated the contributions of the Director General to maintain regulatory standards and pledged their support to any future initiatives of the Merchant Shipping Department. They also expressed their willingness to publish a compilation of all gazette notifications related to maritime regulation for the benefit of all stakeholders. Several process improvements were also discussed at this session, which will help improve productivity and provide ease of doing business to all stakeholders.
In the meantime CASA has suggested that the Merchant Shipping Secretariat should introduce an online platform to accept payments electronically as well as issue licenses for casual callers. The Director General whilst welcoming this move, suggested that CASA and Merchant Shipping Secretariat work together on this initiative.
