Central Branch Executive Committee with the CILT SL Council Members
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Sri Lanka (CILT SL), which is the only leading chartered professional body for logistics, transport and supply chain industry in the country set up the Central Branch on 10 September in Kandy. The ceremony was organised by the Central Branch to induct the new Executive Committee at Oak Ray Regency Hotel, Kandy with the presence of the CILT SL Council members.
This is the first branch that CILTSL formed after 35 years of being in existence in Colombo in partnership with departments of management and engineering faculties of the University of Peradeniya and government sector and industry professionals. CILT International Vice President Romesh David, FCILT, Chairperson CILT Gayani de Alwis, CMILT, Vice Chairman Channaka de Alwis CMILT, Assistant Secretary, Henry de Silva, CMILT, Council Members, HA Premaratne, FCILT, Chanaka Gunathilake, CMILT, Dr Mahinda Bandara, CMILT, Dr. Priyangani Jayasundera, CMILT and Secretary General CILT Vasantha Dias from CILT SL took part at the launch.
The Chairperson CILT during her address mentioned that this is a momentous occasion for CILT as this is the first time after 35 years CILT is moving away from the Western Province to spread its wings within the country. CILT’s main aim being to promote professionalism in all four main sectors of transport through continuing professional education to uplift the skills and competencies to create value to the industry and economy as a whole. She congratulated the central team for their enthusiasm and organising the launch of the central branch within six months of initial discussion.
Chief Guest of the event was CILT International Vice President Romesh David, FCILT who delivered his keynote speech on ‘Belt & Road and its impact to Sri Lanka’. Head of the Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Dr. Asela Kulatunga CMILT was elected as the Founding Chairman of CILT Central Branch; Dr. I.M.S. Satyaprasad, CMILT and Ishan Wirtunga as the two Vice Chairmen, Leeza de Silva as the Secretary, Namal Bandaranayake as the Treasurer and Thushara Wjenayake as the Assistant Secretary were elected. Eight Executive Committee members were also elected. Dr. Kulatunga in his induction address mentioned that the Central Branch was delighted to be the first branch of CILT SL and assured that they would strive to contribute to the growth of CILT and professional development and to be the voice for the professionals and academics in the province.
CILT is celebrating ‘centennial’ this year with a global membership of over 35,000 in 35 countries across the globe, CILT provides a professional identity to those in the ever expanding logistics and transport sector. It is a strong, active and a unified professional association that is able to speak with authority on strategic issues affecting businesses and people in the industry and support their careers.
The institute holds unparalleled international recognition and works towards achieving its objectives of promoting and encouraging the art and science of logistics and transport through its membership and its educational qualifications.
