A three-member Sri Lankan delegation from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Sri Lanka was invited to the fifth China International Logistics Development Conference in Changsha, the provincial capital of the Hunan Province known as the Culture City of East Asia, from 16 to 17 November at the Kempinski hotel.

Changsha is a new first-tier city and the first among the ‘Top Ten Leisure and Livable Eco-Cities in China’. The conference was co-hosted by China Communication and Transportation Association (CCTA) and CILT China.
The theme of the conference was ‘Interconnection and Integrated Development with Belt and Road Initiative’. Over 1,000 delegates from 19 countries attended the international conference. The three-member Sri Lankan delegation was CILT Sri Lanka Chairperson Gayani de Alwis, CMILT, CILT International Vice President Romesh David, FCILT and WiLAT Sri Lanka Chairperson Dhashma Karunaratne, CMILT. Mayor of Changsha hosted the CILT delegations from 19 countries at a dinner on the 15th.
Romesh David spoke on the topic “BRI led Infrastructure Development; Diversifying Sri Lanka’s Hub Offering”. 20 speakers with three parallel sessions deliberated various topics related to BRI and its latest developments. WiLAT China second year anniversary was also celebrated as part of the conference and CILT Sri Lanka Chairperson was invited to speak on “UN Women HeforShe program of Sri Lanka” at the conference. She shared the highlights and mentioned about the adoption of the program in Mauritius recently. Conference delegates were also taken on a technical visit to, on the final day, where the delegates were taken on a tour to the Changsha International Convention and Exhibition Centre and the Changsha Jinxia Economic Development Zone. The conference gave a good exposure for the delegates for knowledge enhancement and networking with the CILT global family and their Chinese counterparts.
