In a transformative move that underscores Sri Lanka’s ambition to become South Asia’s premier logistics and maritime hub, EFL Project Logistics facilitated the delivery of key hardware for the operational success of the newly commissioned Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT), the of Colombo’s first fully automated deep-water terminal.
EFL Project Logistics is a subsidiary of EFL Global – a globally renowned freight forwarding entity providing innovative supply chain solutions.
CWIT, a joint venture between Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd., (51%), John Keells Holdings, and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), is a flagship infrastructure project designed to elevate Colombo’s port capacity to global standards. As the terminal prepared for full commercial operations in 2025, a steady stream of landmark equipment deliveries — meticulously handled by EFL Project Logistics — helped fast-track the development of this next-generation maritime gateway.
Among the standout achievements, EFL Project Logistics was entrusted with the complete destination logistics for a fleet of 62 state-of-the-art Sany electric inter-terminal trucks, and 31 x 40 Flat Rack Containers. These electric vehicles, the first of their kind in Sri Lanka, mark a significant step toward sustainable, zero-emission logistics. These EVs are a central part of CWIT’s eco-friendly operating model, introducing more efficiency to the terminal.
The EFL team also managed the delivery of 15 sets of double cantilever rail-mounted gantry cranes and four sets of rail-mounted quay cranes — high-tech infrastructure critical to CWIT’s goal of achieving fully automated container handling. The seamless coordination, from port handling to final installation logistics, exemplifies EFL Projects Logistics’ capability in orchestrating complex, high-value cargo movements with precision, safety, and speed.
CWIT is designed to accommodate the world’s largest vessels, significantly increasing the throughput of the Port of Colombo and contributing to its goal of handling 15 million TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) by 2026. The addition of automated gantry cranes, quay cranes, and electric vehicles now places the terminal in a league of its own – blending operational efficiency with environmental responsibility.
As global trade routes evolve and sustainability becomes non-negotiable in modern supply chains, EFL Project Logistics stands at the forefront – enabling key transformations, enhancing overall economic value, and enabling Sri Lanka’s logistics infrastructure to meet future challenges.
