LogiPark International Ltd. (LPI), a fully-owned subsidiary of John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH) and sister company of John Keells Logistics Ltd. (JKLL), a key third party Logistics Services Provider (LSP) in the Sri Lankan market, embarked on commissioning its flagship integrated logistics centre with the ground-breaking ceremony that was held on 1 March at the Muthurajawela Logistics Zone.
The ceremonial event was held in the presence of JKH Chairman Krishan Balendra, JKH Group Finance Director and Deputy Chairman Gihan Cooray, the Sector committee of the JKH Transportation Group, Chairman and the board of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation, the Board of Directors of the BOI, the management teams of LPI and JKLL and several other distinguished guests.
With an estimated initial investment of $ 14 million and a footprint span in excess of 230,000 square feet; the LPI integrated logistics centre is set to be up and running by end-March 2020. It is expected to create over 40,000 CBM of inventory-holding capacity with a handling capability exceeding 300,000 CBM a month.
In addition to multi-industry storage chambers, the centre will also have multi-tiered value-added service (VAS) areas catering to a broad range of Industry verticals including FMCG, apparel, electronics, chemical, lubricants, telecommunication, perishable and general trading. These VAS areas will leverage latest technologies in task automation and product packaging to enable a cost-efficient service delivery in compliance to global standards of excellence.
The strategic location of the this centre in proximity to the highway master plan of Sri Lanka as well as the international airport and seaports creates a unique service proposition to seamlessly link local industries and consumer markets to international supply chain gateways.
The Transportation Sector of JKH, through its 3PL arm JKLL, currently caters to supply chains across multiple industry verticals with a client portfolio consisting of industry leaders in both local and international markets. The company operates seven advanced Dry and Cold logistics centres using best in-class facility infrastructure, warehouse management systems, storage solutions and handling equipment.
The new facility is part of the group’s long-term service capacity growth plan which would also include expansions in the company’s cold storage footprint, transport fleet and regional service portfolio.
