With over 30 years of experience in customs brokerage, Scanwell is now poised to expand its services beyond traditional customs activities, such as special equipment transport and unloading and consultation, and enhance its service offerings and broaden its market reach by reinforcing core operations in port, customs, and BOI activities, while also securing key certifications from accredited organisations.

Scanwell’s commitment to ethical trading practices, green initiatives, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects underscores its focus on sustainable growth. Known for its continuous employee training and proactive customer service, Scanwell is set to launch an ambitious expansion and diversification strategy to further strengthen its industry position.

Technological innovation will be at the heart of Scanwell’s strategy this year. The implementation of their advanced in-house IT platform has significantly streamlined processes and improved operational efficiency. Upgraded communication systems now support a 24/7 working model, ensuring that clients receive accurate and timely information at all times, backed by their expertise in 4PL services.

Scanwell Customs Brokers and Scanwell Haulage Executive Director Indika Marasinghe stated that their ability to balance its global reach with local expertise has been a key strength. The company collaborates closely with consultants who specialise in BOI and customs regulations, ensuring compliance with local trade practices. As an active member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Clearing and Forwarding Agents, he said that they are at the forefront of industry developments while leveraging its global resources to support client projects.

He further explained that diversity within the workforce has played a crucial role in Scanwell’s ongoing success. Having introduced new growth opportunities for its staff and creating unique work patterns that offer cost advantages for clients, this inclusive approach has enabled Scanwell to expand into new fields, fostering innovation and enhancing its overall work environment.

Marasinghe emphasised that employee well-being and retention will be top priorities for Scanwell. He outlined that initiatives like the Job Satisfaction Calculator have positively impacted the workforce, encouraging long-term staff to embrace new challenges and think creatively, and fostering a sense of accomplishment and loyalty among employees.

He also noted that environmental sustainability is another area where Scanwell is making significant strides. The company is committed to minimising paper usage and has implemented certifications for its transport providers, including its own fleet. Looking to the future, Scanwell plans to introduce a carbon calculator for certain customers, helping them to reduce the environmental impact of their deliveries.

Marasinghe added that the Scanwell customs brokerage team will soon move into a newly refurbished office, which offers a modern and efficient workspace. Plans for further diversification into project customs clearance, bulk clearance, and new commodity clearances are in progress. Its own offices at free trade zones in Seethawaka, Biyagama, and Katunayake are a key advantage to support the export industry. Further investments in IT are another part of the company’s strategy to ensure continued growth and success.

As Scanwell embarks on these ambitious initiatives, it remains committed to fostering excellence, diversity, and inclusion, and driving sustainable practices for long-term success in an evolving industry.
