The Cabinet of Ministers last week approved the signing of a bilateral Air Service Agreement between Sri Lanka and Kazakhstan to boost connectivity.

“The proposed Air Services Agreement aims to facilitate the operation of seven flights per week from any point in Sri Lanka to Astana and/or Almaty in Kazakhstan along specified routes,” Cabinet Co-Spokesman and Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at the post-Cabinet meeting media briefing.

On 13 May 2013, the Cabinet approved signing such an agreement for the development of air services between the two countries’ aeronautical authorities. Despite the initial approval, the signing of the airline agreement has been pending.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva.
