Customs House Agents (CHAs), Association of Clearing and Forwarding Agents (ACFA), Association of Container Transporters, and the customs union last week met to discuss the entry processing, examination, and clearance issues and delays for CHAs, transporters, and importers.

The discussion with the heads of the customs union about losses and delays, as well as the increased costs of commodities due to truck detention, port rent, and shipping container demurrage, was highly productive.

Industry sources said only less than 300 Customs Declarations (CusDecs) per day are being processed, and many are pending even after payment of duty and other charges and there is a big backlog of over 1,000 CusDecs.
