Airbus to deliver first A350 to Qatar Airways this weekDUBAI (Reuters): Qatar Airways will receive Airbus’ newest plane, the A350 jetliner, on 13 December, the Gulf carrier said in a statement. The aircraft is the first of the 80 jets ordered by Qatar Airways, making it the first airline to receive Airbus’ new wide-body long-haul jet. The A350 is made with carbon composite fuselage and is a direct competitor to Boeing’s composite 787 Dreamliner. Qatar Airways said it would first deploy the jet for commercial service on the Frankfurt route from January 2015. The aircraft will enter commercial service on 15 January, according to the airline’s online reservations system. |
Boeing on track to meet Dreamliner delivery forecastBoeing, that the world’s largest plane maker, is on track to deliver the 110 787 Dreamliners it forecast for this year, despite signs that deliveries fell below target last month, said chief operating officer Dennis Muilenburg . “We’ll meet that,” Muilenburg said at a Credit Suisse conference in New York. Some analysts estimate Boeing delivered seven Dreamliners in November, below its target pace of nearly 10 a month. Muilenburg also said that Boeing’s loss of a large Delta Air Lines widebody order to rival Airbus was largely due to the unavailability of delivery slots, noting that Delta needed the planes “sooner than we had slots available.” |
